Yellow works better than un-hued, for me. They increase contrast and, as another poster said, they brighten things up. Often they even try to emulate the shapes of cycling sunglasses so there's really no downside, other than that they don't pack down as small as a pair of insert-lenses.

I'm reading reviews of photochromic bike glasses & a bit surprised that they're quite positive. Now with frequent sun-to-shade transitions I suppose they're not perfect (though it's not as if one could switch glasses every time a shady stretch arrives) but some reviews say they get quite clear at night. Photochromic lenses only cost a bit more than regular & probably cheaper & more convenient that buying/toting an extra pair for night. Photochromic would probably be more popular except that (in the USA at least) most bikers don't ride at night anyway.

One problem that I had with any sunglasses that were not a wraparound type, was that it I was riding in an out of shaded areas a lot with the sun to my left or right (think a tree lined route) that the bright sunlight would come in behind the lens from the side. That caused a lot of eyestrain. It's why I bought those sunglasses I posted an image of upthread. They have side pnels that are the same material as the lenses are and thus block sunlight coming from the side.

Cheers
