What cycling item do you tend to "collect"?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What cycling item do you tend to "collect"?

What I mean is:
Is there an item that for some reason you tend to have multiples of, even though you don't really need them?
Obviously, we all have multiple clothing items (jerseys to match our bikes & to avoid having to do laundry every day, etc).
But I'm talking more about stuff we don't necessarily "need" more than 1 or 2 of.
Some have multiple bikes...some hoard wheels...

Me? Probably shoes. I have 4 pair. Don't really need them all...I just like them. Not that 4 is a lot...but they're noticeable in my closet.

I have way too many bottles. I get 4 new ones every year, plus a half dozen used ones I pick up cleaning up after our race every year.

With intent - some of the Kid's race numbers, and awards/jerseys.

At age 20 I had 16 bikes, and was spending a large amount of my income storing stuff.
I'm over that.

But...I have old wood rims, many old frames of sentimental value, weird old Italian stuff - Campy delta brakes.
Old ibis Ti stem I gave my girlfriend, now wife 25 years ago. Old Ti frames.
Then I save old tubulars - they tell a story, or have a story. The ones my kid raced Paris Roubaix junions on are hanging on his bed post.
New stuff - I love ExtraLite parts. If not on kid's bike they go on desk.

I have had about 50 carbon wheels move through the house the last year or two. I have the ones he won his first "real race" hanging on the wall.
Mostly - sentimental stuff.

I collect old Campagnolo components. NOS Super Record/C-Record only(unless it's even more rare).

I've held onto shoes I intended to replace and tubes I've intended to patch. From time to time I've worn the old shoes, but haven't managed to patch any tubes except on the road. I'd have too many bottles if I didn't keep losing them.

I've got a few sets of shifters with malfunctioning right side. Intending to repair them, but haven't.

I've got a bunch of 10-speed cassettes, but this was before I learned I didn't like anything with an 11t cog.

Got a bunch of different coloured bar tapes. But I haven't changed anything on any of the bikes for more than a year, and don't really intend to either.

I have so many tires.

Racing gravel and mtb in the southeast requires a variety of tire sizes and tread styles to get the most out of the ride.

I can't afford to collect anything, unfortunately. I have to live vicariously through all of you. Lol. I don't even have spare tires in the event I get a flat. LOL

Saddles. Just can't seem to find one I like on my mountain bike, and keep being to cheap to spend $150 on a SMP.

I have upwards of 10 saddles I've bought that for various reasons didn't suit me and still regularly surfing email looking for bargains that might suit me. Nowhere local does any saddle testing programs, I have to buy what I try.

Road SoCal to DC in 17 days on this (saddle, not that post) in 1982.

Got a private bill through congress - another story. I was walking the hill talking to senators in lycra was something they may still remember.

Buy your saddles from Performance, and return the used ones you don't like.

I did that with a Nashbar saddle thinking I'd do that but I was going to have to pay a $6.99 fee for the service and return shipping. I decided I'd rather keep the saddle and give it away than take the $15 hit. 3 or 4 of them were bought used on eBay. My last one was one of the Serfas Phantom carbon fiber railed saddle for like 80% off from competitive cyclist, verdict is still out on it.

Though I am sure you were quite a sight and would, also, enjoy the story, I fear you overestimate the longevity of senators and far underestimate the, ahem, colorfulness of the constituent interactions that occur on a daily basis in the august marbled halls of Congress. A guy in lycra? Wouldn't even be mentioned at that evening's happy hour.

Pretty off topic. I have thought about writing an autobiography, kids say I should. Short story...
Born in Oakland CA in 1961 to activist parents.
Lots of news stories about mom.
Family joined Peace Corps in 1970s. I was 9. We were at that time the only family in Peace Corps going to Africa.
We went to Liberia.
I had a chimpanzee, was the only white kid they had seen, surfed with cows and lots of different things.
I had a motorcycle and road with chimp on back - age 10. Parents were crazy, whatever. I didn't die.
Chimp was moved to USA and became a "famous" talker.
We adopted a Liberian older brother.
We moved to Kenya.
I went to a boarding school (Rift Valley Academy) cornerstone laid by Teddy Roosevelt.
It was at 7,200 feet. I played rugby and got into cycling.
I graduated from HS in 1979 from Kenya.
My adopted brother came to the USA legally.
He was not allowed to stay because he came legally, where if he came illegally he would become legal
(yea what I wrote)
I was into cycling.
I worked for a guy and got paid in bike stuff. The guy was significant in industry. He had about 1M into bike stuff.
I road from SoCal to DC to take a letter to Reagan to let my brother stay - turned 21 on trip in Tulsa.
Got media coverage, got bill passed.
That was an exciting decade + 2 years.

I will go with tires, I have 3 sets of Vittoria Pave tires and several sets of Corsa Evo III's in 23 and 25. A set of Corsa G+ and Corsa Speed G+ as well as a set of the Continental 4 seasons black limited edition. Great tire. I really do not need anymore but now I bought a Diverge and that means trying out different tires in different widths.
