Yeah you can actually get a good head of steam after the bubble pond hill.

Poking through files though I can't come close to that time though. But not surprising given his he crushed me st mount Washington.

There's nothing particularly steep on it. I'm not sure I'd opt to do that on purpose. I suppose it also depends on your cassette. I only run a 23 rear so...

I've ridden than climb 100s of times. Literally. We vacationed there for 12 straight years, 2 weeks at a time.

We're in RyanF territory. Every post swings and misses at the previous point.

Wouldn't this also require removing the front brake and FD and making Doge apoplectic?

Nah, you got to go full bore and get your hands on the fUCI concept bike that Specialized came out with a couple of years ago.

Edit: for some reason the picture doesn't show up, so if you want to see a hideously obscene bike with cowlings and a giant rear wheel and only one triangle, this was the first link that showed up on google: https://newatlas.com/fuci-specialized/39154/

Turns out I didn't get the job.

Well, I was offered the job, and then during negotiations they rescinded the offer. I'm literally in shock.

The last conversation we had was last Friday. We agreed on salary and such and they were pushing for an 10/16 start date (1 month for an out of state move). I mentioned that would be really hard since my partner was leaving for 5 weeks in Malawi on the 14th and I have to take care of my dog, so I asked if we could do a Nov start, but also asked what they could help with re: temp housing (which they had offered in a previous email without any providing any details). All weekend I was under the impression we agreed in principle and just needed to work out the start date, and if they really needed 10/16 I was prepared to make it happen.

Monday I got an email saying "we believe you indicated that you couldn't do the 10/16 start" so they rescinded the offer. No option for me to rebut and say that I was happy to make that happen.

I immediately sent emails apologizing for the miscommunication and indicating I was certainly able to make 10/16 happen. Also called Monday and Tuesday afternoons, and haven't heard a peep back. wtf?

Hurts to think you have a job and then not get it, but on the bright side you're not working for a company that treats people like that now...

Was about using a bike allowed to race (and I clarified under USAC, not UCI). And the humor I guess only Phil and I get about a brake, or when he suggests removing both brakes, but keeps them on so he won't be hitting a bear. FD removes, single chain ring and glued numbers are all fine for racing in USAC, and UCI.

I called doing a Gaimon uploading a ride when the KOM has been flagged so you get the KOM crown on your segment.
Strava seems to have fixed that software error that left it there even though it never was a KOM. Even in Strava you should get your crown fairly - don't you think?

True, been thinking the same thing too. Who knows, maybe the job would have sucked, but it stings nonetheless.

And I'm sure there's something(s) I did that contributed to this, but I honestly don't think I asked for too much or was too demanding. I was negotiating with an HR rep and she was relaying our conversations to the director, so perhaps things got messed up in between, I don't know. What a **** show.

So I work at a prestigious university. I had an employee leave 2 years ago, go abroad to get her masters degree (in uni admin) and she reached out to see if we had anything open to her now that she's back in the states. Turns out her old position, literally the exact one she left, was open at the time. I let her know, asked her to give us 1 year there and I'd walk her back into that spot, then she would be employeed, back in the university and open to look for other positions.

She agreed. I wrote the recommendation to hire letter, got it approved and everything, in early August with a 9/1 target start date as FTE. We brought her in 1 week early on a temp billet. It's now 9/20, she's yet to receive a verbal offer with salary, but HR showed me a written offer letter with a salary on it Monday. I texted her, assuming HR had a verbal acceptance from her (as you should do before presenting a written offer) and told her to expect the letter with XYZ salary on Tuesday morning.

Turns out HR never ran the offer by her, and she's not too delighted with the salary. Nor did HR post-date the start or indicate retroactive-pay to 9/1 as my division director had indicated for them to do. I sit in the exec building literally 15ft from the HR person doing all this. I still haven't received an updated letter, any indication that anyone has spoken to the employee, etc...

HR can ****ing suck sometimes. Holy ****. I don't know what happened in your case, but I just wanted to share a horror story from the other side.

Wow, yeah that's pretty ****ty. The lack of empathy is what really gets me.

These are big decisions that have huge impacts on people's lives. We were looking at apartments this weekend. My GF is moving there in January for her job regardless so this hit us both pretty hard.

********.

I'm a bit frustrated at work; one of our projects is being intentionally tanked by another group. They assigned a team with 3 developers; 2 haven't written code in 10 years and one edits ini and connection strings. Since I manage the infrastructure and know the app I told them I'd write it myself but they balked at that, despite agreeing its going to fail. Its like they want us to do the bare minimum and its really frustrating.

Obviously just reading this thread there are worse problems to have.

We're also getting another person on the team and my boss said there were 1,500 people qualified, a veiled 'anyone can easily be replaced'. We found out yesterday from HR only 2 people are qualified and both live out of state. I'm half tempted to look into contract work part time.
