New Bell

I just purchased a Spurcycle bell based on reviews and other readings. Hopefully it’ll be good on my Alpenchallenge, I have a Gates carbon drive so no chain which equals a completely silent bicycle. No one can hear me coming.

How on earth does a bike bell die? Seems like such a thing should last forever.

If the striker breaks off you won't get much sound anymore. It happens quite a lot if you commute and put your bikes in crowded racks. Most people take care but sometimes your only option is to disregard somebody else's bike. I've been guilty of it, especially if somebody has parked their bike in an idiotic way and I am in a hurry.

I just recently ordered two BBB brand bells -- the BBB-15 and the BBB-17. Ended up returning the latter and keeping the former. The BBB-15 (also called the Loud and Clear) makes a great brass sound with forever sustain. It's not the loudest bell out there, but it's exactly what I was looking for. Absolutely love the sound that bell makes!
