Well, it was pouring all night here. Woke up at first light to get out. Looked out the window and it is still pouring. Sucked the joy right out of it. Sat around and did other things, showered, and ate breakfast with the kids. By the time I was done eating and went to sit in front of the computer, it had stopped raining. It is still very dark out, and looks like it will be raining again all day. While I don't mind getting caught on the rain while I am out, I seriously hate going out while it is pouring from the beginning. No ride for me today. This entire week has rained so much that I am doing my research right now on buying a trainer. I may get me one of those fancy ones that have videos and such.

40 miles solo with a few hills thrown in. Fall colors are starting to look great around here. Sore lower back from being too fat and not riding much. Gainful employment has gotten in the way of my cycling as of late.

Beautiful day for a ride. Sunny and 38 degrees when we left, 40 when we got back. Not bad at all.

Edit: I'm probably going to take Botto's advice and try the Lance ride in two weeks.

29 poorly fueled, hungry freakin' miles. It was agony. I got home and made a giant lunch, ate it, and I'm still hungry. Chillin' out with a vanilla coke now.

The weather, on the other hand, is sinfully nice. I need to go change the oil in the car, but sitting here staring at the wall seems so much better.

67.66 miles 2113 evevation gain at a slow 17.5 MPH not riding strong. Almost perfect weather 72 and partly cloudy. I must be feeling old. I turn 60 next week. I better pep up before the Tour de Tucson later this month.

It was cold here this morning (O C, 32 F)...I went out with the intention of doing a 60 km ride, ended up doing about 15...I need shoe covers and some better gloves!

About 4 hours with a few friends. First half into the wind (about 10 mph with gusts to near 20) and then getting blown back to town.

I put in 40 miles this morning. We had really bad weather overnight but it broke about 9:15. I hurried out the door and almost made the 40 mile loop without rain, but the last 10 minutes I rode in a really heavy downpoor.

I also had a flat and took about 5 minutes to fix it, so I would have gotten slightly less wet if that hadn't happened.

It was a good ride, a little wet initially from the rain last night but along the coast it was drier. Was looking for a cruise today so I mostly sat in and took the "easy" route when the ride forks, mostly because the other route has a fast descent on crappy pavement and I don't really want to deal with that with my healing clavicle. We had actually been pretty strung out leading up to the fork so after it I softpedaled to reform a group, but someone attacked so I jumped on him. When the road turned up he ran out of gas fast, I gapped everyone on the rest of the hill and then backed off a bit on the flat section to let him come up so I'd have someone to work with. After the regroup where the two routes rejoin, we were cruising back when the attacks started flying off the front.

The group was getting really strung out and then I heard the unmistakable sound of bikes going down and saw people parting. When the dust settled (figuratively), it turned out that the two women on the ride had gone down. It sounded like what happened was that near the front two guys didn't want to pull through, so one moved over, the guy behind followed, and somehow came together with one of the women, who went down and the woman behind her followed like dominoes. Both women had their significant others on the ride and this happened right in front of a fire station, so they were well taken care of. Most of the group continued on but I stayed behind with a handful of others. Paramedics came and tended to the first woman, put a neck brace on, oxygen, etc. After a while it was clear that she was ok and she actually wanted to continue riding home but the firemen and her husband encouraged her to get a ride home. The other woman mainly just had some abrasions and was going to ride back but as we were about to go she realized her shifter and front wheel were messed up, so she got a ride too.

So kind of a somber end; it was dissappointing more people didn't stay behind and even by the time we got back to town most everyone was gone from the coffee shop too. Oh well. I'm probably going to go climb later today, I heard that the "sky road" has been repaved and I need to check it out

Did a nice fun short ride today, felt wonderful, very cool day, light showers. My friend downloaded the Trail Guru Iphone 3G map that automatically sends it to there website. https://www.trailguru.com/wiki/index.php/Track:25D3. Another wonderful ride in the wine country, I'll have to take some pictures next time.

p.s. Today marked a 20 pound weight loss for myself .


umd: Are your group rides usually that competative?

80+ Km, 800M of climbing(a lot for me). First time riding on the Cliff Rd at Wollongong. I didn't take my camera, silly billy. The first picture is of the final ascent before the cliff Rd.

if you get there early, go for a warm up. the farmington canal path isn't very interesting, but at least you won't get lost.

Pouring rain. Intervals training, plus echelon practice. Altogether only 50 kms. At least it was relatively warm, but it gets difficult to breathe when you're getting a face full of water.
