This is really an eye opener to me. People talk about death forks, but this is something that could effect any older bike with an alloy crank.

how about nds crank crack??
. Bought a 80s PX10 recently .
Had what looked like a very tidy campagnolo crank set .
Dismantled for the normal spit and polish and found damage as pictured .
Fatigue ? Abuse ?
What do you learned folks think ?

the drive side spider is crack free ! Yay .

odd to say the least

ooohh. that crack, especially outbounding from the corner of the sq taper don't look good nor fixable. it will definitely get pried 'open' when the crank bolt's tightened up, right? i mean it will be somehow pressed well between the spindle & bolt, not failing like a quick 'snap' but who knows what it's going to do with another crack inbound.

IMO—as a non expert tho—i'd retire it to a wall art and source another one. ND side arms are available usually at lower price than the D side. i've seen lots of sets with non-matching years, shouldn't even be a prob no?
