I had great luck with my Cannondale backpack. Holds a bunch, has a laptop sleeve, stabilizing chest and waist straps.
I didn't use it much, but there's a flat that folds down and holds a helmet!
It has mesh bottle holders on the side, nice when you go to class.

I have panniers now because i have to haul too much, but I sure liked the pack. I was much faster without two giant parachute-like grocery panniers on the bike.

edit: Also came with a hidden packet with a rain fly!

I'm using the Banjo Bros. medium backpack and it's perfect for my needs. I ride in a lot of nasty weather and everything inside stays nice and dry.

i have more bags than stuff to put in them, i have used mess bag, panniers, trunk bags, combo trunks (that was over-stuffed and burst the seams), haven't had a bar bag in years. backpacks too, padded back, hip belt and sturnum straps a must (had to rig a belt on winter pack). i store most things in ziploc bags (2gal is the shiznit), and haven't carried laptop anywhere by bike

i live a mile from work (sometimes it seems like its not worth it when it takes longer to get ready than it does to get there), all the same here is my dream pack (although i just noticed no hip belt)

then again, that molle bag looks nice too

Arrgh!! After much deliberation, not to mention countless hours browsing the web, I have come to this conclusion. I think that I will go with BB 'pack.

I wonder if I would void the warranty by modifying it some? I want to attach a pouch/pocket or two to the side (opposite the u-lock pocket). To add a little bit of utility.

Well they probably won't take it as an exchange if something else on it goes wrong, if that's what you mean.

Good choice on the bag though, you'll love it.
