Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ugh, so glad that era is over. Even if it wasn't, today there are options like satellite, pandora, etc.

Sunday, it was windy as all hell, AND the gardener we hired to clear our back yard (which had gotten away from the previous owner and we'd only incompletely fought back) sent over 3 guys who managed to fill a 20' x 6' tall debris box. Not bad for 1/3 of an acre! I ended up doing an hour on Zwift instead of the 4 hour ride I'd usually do.

I figured I'd make up for it by riding yesterday after work, but when I got home, the drains were all backed up, so no shower. No shower, no ride.

Now I'm jonesing after only two Zwift rides in the last 8 days and no outdoor rides, and all the stress of the election and its sequelae. Oh, and the furnace is broken, which wasn't a problem really till Sunday night when the temp dropped and I woke up to 57 degrees in the living room. Oh, and the guy we called last Tuesday, who said he would be over Thursday or Friday, showed up YESTERDAY and said he could replace our furnace NEXT WEEK. Meanwhile I'm urging my wife - who's in charge of this stuff - to call other places until SOMEBODY can come is dragging her feet.

I need a 4 hour ride, or a big, BIG drink.

I had a nice ride with 2 others. 3.5 hours, high about 60 with a bit of wind and not as much climbing as usual. No pancakes but I did have some salt and vinegar chips.

Tomorrow I'm WFH and no Zoom before 11, so I think I'mma sneak out for 2 hours or so. I dragged out my cool weather gear. Let's see if I can remember how to dress for high 40s/low 50s....

But first, maybe some light Zwifting tonight, though.

Got some nascent IG DM'ing going with a modern Viking. Bonus: she's hot , not that anything will come of that--females hate me more than nature does. Still, I feel an obligation to bring quality content to the table, as I do here. But I don't know the audience, and the cultural gap is obviously very wide.

Just installed these lights, not Christmas related. I thought they were going to be too short, but they are actually long. Will have to rig them better tomorrow.

Other notes, I became a legend today. Nobody treated me as such at any store that I went to. I blame the mask, they obviously didn’t recognize me.
