I'm pretty sure bikes are not allowed to use escalators in NYC transit stations.. even though enforcement is lax...
I know they really enforce it in the Oculus, World Trade Center stations..
Subway elevators usually smell like dried up urine mixed with vomit/diarrhea projectile...

Krane, I much prefer your methodology, but you could dial the red snippet down probably 2 font sizes and achieve what you're aiming for. Even leaving it just the same size as the original and coloring the significant portion would be effective.
