Owners are responsible for their dogs. Owners need to be held accountable when their pets attack people. Dogs are just being dogs. Bikes trigger the run-chase instinct. If a rider is attacked, the result needs to be more than just putting the dog down. Criminal charges should be pressed.

There's value to me in keeping the valve clean and protected. (You don't have to wipe the valves off before topping off the tires.) And cosmetically they add to an overall more "finished" look to the bike. I use silver aluminum to match the stem. What could be contentious about that? Are people thinking they're saving weight by leaving them off? That's hard to take seriously.

The question I would ask is, "How many people have valve stem caps on their automobiles?" If you don't, then you can say the caps aren't important. If you do, then you're talking out of both sides of your mouth.

I have caps on my cars and bike. I'm with Neese--I use them on the bike just for a bit of finished perfection, not for any protection they might offer. I'm sometimes a weight weenie, but since they don't even register on my digital scale, I'm good to go.

If anyone was going to, it should be the guy you're quoting because he thinks that not having 2 valve caps would be the equivalent of saving the weight of 10 valve caps because Newton or something.

Is that a dare to come up with some BS argument about why they are important on Schrader stems, but not Presta? I'll bite:
Schrader stems are basically hollow at the tip, so more prone to dirt collection.than a screw-tipped Presta. Basically, the Presta is self-capping.

Accurate. The caps stay on the valve until the tube gets installed.

Whatever man....I still choose to have my valve stem caps on, I even carry few spare ones just in case I loose one.

I'm not "everyone", but if I ever bought a bike with a dork disc, it would get removed before I rode it the first time. Lawyer tabs have been filed off on all my bikes that have had them since I bought my first good bike in 1990. I know how to properly use a quick-release.
