Here's the part that you might not know but need to know and to factor into your thinking.
After I'm gone my kids are not going to talk about how sensible I was. People who have been reading my posts for several years will know about my history of broken bones, concussions and PTSD. I've had 4 bike rides that ended in the back of an ambulance and at least a couple of others that probably should have. During the last 6 months of riding mostly recumbent bicycles I probably had 10 falls that my kids don't even know about. They were mostly nothing falls, but they did happen. The reality is that limiting myself to riding my recumbent trike and not climbing tall ladders anymore is a good decision.
Any of you who have had family financial discussions before a new bike - When I announced that it was time to buy myself a recumbent trike, my wife immediately escorted me to the Bike Center before I had time to reconsider. We can kid about it and we laugh about it, but my family clearly both loves and respects me.
