I purchased a near-new Trek Fuel EX 9 frame on eBay and built it up myself with a custom parts list. After riding several Trek hardtail MTBs for several years, I love the full suspension.

I don't think that you can just say "dual suspension" and expect to get any useful information.

There are a plethora of bicycle rear suspension designs and they all ride a little bit differently. For example, I find some to be all but impossible to ride standing on the pedals. On the other hand, you will be amazed at how much easier a rocky downhill can be to ride with a nicely damped suspension bike. Like pretty much everything else, the good stuff doesn't come cheap.

I've been riding a Kona Hei Hei for a few years that has full suspension. I found that I lock the rear suspension on climbs, and sometimes the front if the path/road is really smooth. Going downhill, it is most comfortable for me to unlock both suspensions. Thankfully, I can lock/unlock both while seated and riding.

I'm 64 and switched to a full suspension Giant Anthem 1 in 2005. We changed some components when I bought it and It honestly weighs 22.5 pounds. The rear suspension really helps protect my back and makes the ride more enjoyable. Mine has a manual lockout on the front and rear so you can convert it temporarily to a rigid frame or hardtail, if you want or need. On bumps, rocks, roots, etc., it is much more forgiving and compliant. Where you notice it the most is descending.
