how can I decode the sn ?

Mine is really rusty and I don't know if i can figure out any of the numbers/letters..

what should I look for besides just a 2 digit # since there are a bunch of numbers all jumbled up ?

Yes,
Another Schwinn hits the streets again.
My LeTour is pretty much set up the same way (pre new hub), and it's good fun. I left the handlebars long, flipped em over and straped a milk crate to them with an old innertube. It's ugly but no one steals it from the train station, and it only cost me $25. eventually I'll "Fix" it but it's not on the top of my priorty list, glad to see you dumped the Huffy, I bet you enjoy riding this one quite a bit.

Its been cold by florida standards lately, it was 50x out today ! LOL

here is a close-up of the ring gear.. I had to flip it to get a good chain line, and it cleared the frame pefectly !!!!!!!

check it out:






I'm gonna call the LBS and find out if they have shorter spacers for the ring gear, so I can remove the small gear all together.. I tried to do it myself but I needed some washers to make up for the missing ring gear so I could not get rid of the free play..

Those bolts aren't spacers. You'll need single ring chainring bolts.

what size cranks do you have on there? they look a little long, but maybe it's only me. you might want to watch your cornering though. again, maybe just me.

I don't know how long, but I already had a nice talk with the sidewalk and he promised to steer clear of me when I'm riding...

My clearance is bad, I can barely lean over without scraping the pedals on the road !!!!!

you can switch to track pedals or something else slimmer than the stock schwinn pedals(assuming you still have the stock pedals on there) if you're not ready to buy new cranks) you can also try to learn to steer more than you lean, it sounds odd but it's not that hard to learn

I have some crappy $ 20 aluminum/steel pedals from the LBS with straps on them...

They are kind of thick like BMX pedals...

They tend to creak alot now that i'm actually putting some more force on them than what they would normally get from a FW bike...

anyway, i'm having fun with it so far.

I've got an old Shwinn Sprint. The frame is indestructable i tell you. Ive had it for two years and the only thing that has ever happened to it was a midly bent fork from a game of cutthroat footdown. That bike will serve you well for years to come.

I noticed that you have the small ring where the big chainring would normally be. If your doing this because you don't want to spend the extra $$$ for a singlechainring bolt, just go to HomeDepot or hardware store and get washers to take up the space needed when using chainring bolts meant for double rings. A cheap $1.50 tip that a local bike shop taught me.

yeah, i guess you could probably get away with those cranks if you're careful...at least for a while, but i'm sure you'll want to switch them out sooner or later, because...well...pedal strike blows. try to avoid it. most definitely.
