Need some help with this Peugeot
I’m no Peugeot expert but I know some folks who are 
This one is for sale in my area. Can anyone help me determine if it is a low-grade gas pipe model or something further up the Peugeot chain? It’s listed at $48 so I might just grab it to scavenge parts although old French stuff is not really my thing.
All insight is appreciated!

It's a mid-1970s Peugeot UE8 which was basically a UO8 with lighting system, rack and fenders. The frame is hi-tensile steel. Still, a fair to good deal at the price, depending on mechanical condition.
Edit: the rear of the photo is probably cropped because the fender tail light has either a broken or missing lens, which is a common problem. If it was in one piece, you could sell it for a good price.

Makes a fine commuter and the price is decent. There's not a lot to scavenge here though. I have a UE 8 I've been meaning to fix up for a while but have never gotten around to it.

Parts I have scavenged from a UO8:
headset
stem
brake calipers and levers
rear derailleur (front is always cracked)
saddle (if it is the original leather one)
pedals
Simplex skewers
Some will have replacement dérailleurs that can have value.
Relatively long list but not a lot of money. Now a $10 UO8 is pretty much always worth it just for the headset.
in the world of lower end French parts bikes, I typically do better with Motobecanes as they more often liked Japanese parts, and often had Swiss bottom brackets.

Thanks all for the excellent insight! Going to pass on this. Would have grabbed if it was a higher-end flip or had component value. Way too small for me to ride as a keeper.

Comical update. Bike posting has been updated and is now listed at $180. Additional pics posted including one showing the tail lamp still intact. Almost as if the seller was reading this thread.

1970 was this was the first year this model of Prestige shift levers appeared in a Juy catalogue. They did not come through on new bicycles until the 1971 model year.
Also, 1971 was the final year for this model of Simplex quick release skewer.
Beginning in the 1972 model year Peugeot cycles fitted with cottered chainsets came through with the NERVAR chrome chainguard which seems to be absent here.
If you purchase the machine you may discover a specific date marked on the backside of the Simplex Prestige rear mech -

Some here may be off on this bike it looks nicer than a typical UO-? note the nicer lugs fully pin tripped likely stock Also I see A generator tab sweet fenders and rack I would buy this bike for these parts alone for $100.. As presented my best guess is a Canadian built PA series bike from the late 70's, In any case I would sat it's worth 4x the asking or more to a smart buyer one could sell the fenders for $75 alone, So at the asking you should by this one and ask later worst case is you get nice set of fenders demi racks worth 2x the ask.

Not sure why I’m still spending time on this but I do believe it to be a 1972 PX8. Catalog image below. Distinguishing features I base this on are top tube pump pegs and the full-length rear light lens vs half-length.
