Unless I’m misunderstanding, you already have everything you wanted. That Red chain both lasts a long time and is quiet. You’ve got it all.
Have you double checked that you didn’t thread the chain behind the tab on your derailleur cage? We’ve all done it once but we don’t all admit it.

Yup, the SRAM Red worked great, but I switched to the KMC oil slick finish 'cause I thought it looked cool. Hence the question: is the noise due to different chain shapes, or just that I need to break it in and get it fully lubed? In the scheme of my life, that is a very small thing to worry about, I admit.
