Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am sorry I have to drop you because you look like Lance

I was comutting to work yesterday and passing through Prospect Park. There was a guy who looked like Lance fully decked out with a Trek and Team Discovery outfit. Even his helmet straps were yellow. He was on his 53 x 20 or 19. I knew it wasn't him (not surprised) because he was only slightly faster that I was. I was on my 39 x 14 and just spinning away. I caught up to him near the foot of a .25 mile 5% climb. As I rode ahead of him and noticed the color of his helmet straps and I was determined to teach him a lesson. We both approached to the foot of the climb and I was determined not to change gear. I have my power output set to 400w. roughly 19 mph. I glanced back at him and to initiate the challenge. He took the bait. He was slowly closing in to my wheel. I stood up and dropped down to my 13th gear and just blasted it up at 19 mph. Unless he has been racing, there is no way he could match my speed.

Im confused...Why did you want to drop him in the first place? Just because of a jersey/helmet/and bike?

Maybe he just rode 60-100 miles and he was tired?

Bleh

Im still confused

He's some sort of robot or android with specific power output settings. Kind of like a microwave or toaster oven.

I actually was going to write that and then decided against it.

Anyway, I set my power output to 500,000w, about warp 6. To each his own I suppose.

Why - What did he do to you?

Seems like you’re the one who could use the teaching.

this thread could of been funny... the idea of dropping a person because he looks like lance is a funny idea to me. but you focused too much on beating some guy who wasn't racing you.

I still think that he probably rode over 50 miles and was tired to race you

I think he had his trainer set to 400w - while watching his TDF video.

To my surprise, when I glanced back over my right to give him the Lance look and hoping to see the consternation in his face, he wasn't there. Then, I looked over my other shoulder and he flew right by. Undeterred, I clicked down another gear to give chase. I kept my head planted down, grinding as fast and hard as I could, but I looked up and saw that he'd mounted the top of the hill and vanished. Maybe... it was Lance after all

Soooooooo...how does it feel to win a race that only YOU knew was going on?

Take your bike back to the shop....riders like you don't deserve to even OWN, let alone race a bike.
