McEwen Attacked

Leading Australian cyclist Robbie McEwen is recovering after being attacked by a group following the Gold Coast Indy carnival.

McEwen, who owns a house on the Gold Coast, was walking to a taxi rank when he was set upon by three men at Broadbeach.

Bikes: Fast ones.

From what I can tell, a "king hit" is the Australian equivalent of what an American might call a "haymaker," one of those big old punches where you wheel back before you swing, and fall on your face if you miss. Getting clocked by one of those and being able to just pop up and run away speaks pretty will of Robbie McEwens toughness (not that it needed to be spoken for).

Can any of you Aussies out there back me up on this one?

Wow... I bet he could've killed them all with a single kick each... Cyclists don't realize what strong legs they have relative to the rest of the population...

Ok guys don't get carried away here. The fact that Robbie got up means whoever threw the punch cannot punch. Also you have to learn to kick to be effective.

Kind of.....a king hit is more of a punch on someone who has no idea it's coming.

Shame the rest of the Gold Coast mafia were no-where around....those boys would be in struggletown if Phillips, McGrory et al were with Robbie.

No, but it was Stuart O'Grady who "king hit" him.

What I can't figure out is why I can only get "Molsen Export" in Canada and "Molsen Canadian" in America. Are they the same beer, just repackaged?
