Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 2012 Motobecane Vent Noir; 2016 Mercier Kilo TT Pro

I'm building up a bike largely for my son to ride with me, but also because I enjoy it. I've thrown together some pictures of the first few stages, just in case anyone is interested.

It's a year-unknown Nishiki Altron NFS frame, with a Shimano 600 headset and bottom bracket. I don't know much about this bike other than it might be considered a psuedo-time trial bike. It seems really relaxed compared to other TT bikes. If anyone has any information about it, I'm all ears.

I'm using older eBay parts to put it together. In keeping with the Shimano 600 theme, here we see the Shimano 600 cranks -- Biopace, even (I dug Biopace on the Shimano 600 powered Bianchi I once had) -- and Shimano 600 pedals. I have the toe-clips and straps, I just haven't put them on yet.

Until I get my hands on some cool Shimano 600 calipers, I'm going to use these older Campagnolo Veloce jobs. I got them NOS, complete in the box. I used them on my Trek for a while, to replace the crappy calipers that came stock, until I got the brakes I wanted.

I just picked up these 650c Bontrager wheels from eBay as well (I don't actually have them yet, they're still enroute) for the Nishiki. I would have preferred to get some wheels from the same era as the rest of the components, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg.

What do y'all think?
