Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Anyone going to the prologue of the Tour of California?

I know Ostro mentioned it a couple of weeks back but I thought I'd remind you.
I'm planning on heading up and taking pics for the "Grassy Knoll Project".

I'm thinking of just hitting the festival at Embarcadero around 9:45 and then taking off to find a good picture taking spot along the TT route.

I'll head over to the embarcadero around 9:30 or so, maybe earlier for breakfast, and then stake out a spot somewhere near coit tower. I want to see the climb. You have my number...

I'm going to be doing valet bicycle parking with the SFBC at Justin Herman Plaza from 9AM to 11AM. Say hi if you're in the area, or let us park and watch your bike and gear for you.

It's free and very secure!

I few cars and a team rode through downtown San Mateo today. I didn't get a good look at the bikes, but one car had 3 bikes with disc wheels strapped to it. I was waiting for one to just fall off and no one notice.

CalTrain doesn't get in until 9:36 so I'll likely be at the Bow and Arrow around 9:45.

no problem. It was a fun way to start the day, but I sure didnt like waking up at 8:30!!! We converted my friends bike to a fixie (if you go through her photos, look for the mercier), and we ended up going to the DMV by the pandhandle so she could practice and i could start the process of ****ing up my fancy new tires. ran into a bunch of skater friends (the guys who work run ipath and fecalface). A good sunday!

It's not that steep. I've climbed up to the top of Coit Tower...on my fixed gear. My friend can vouch for this, as she was behind me on a geared bike (well, until the end, anyway). Yes, in 46x16 gearing. And I had a rack on the back at the time. It was fun, and you should do it too.

I haven't had a chance to copy the photos off my camera yet. I was fun hanging with you and Yuko. BTW, the crowds at the SF Grand Prix were much worse.
