Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone done this. Any problems with FD adjustment?

I have this exact setup right now - and trek 5200 with FSA SL-K compact cranks - I run an IRD compact specific front deraileur and have no issues at all.

My KHS Flite 2000 has a braze-on as well and I also use the IRD compact front derailleur with great success.

Yes, some of the OCLV braze on tabs won't allow the FD to get low enough to the big chainring on a compact crank. You have 2 choices - either you can order a Trek specific tab from a dealer or you can file the hole longer on your existing one.

I did both - I ordered one - about $15 - and while waiting for it, I filed mine. It works perfectly. When the new one arrived, it essentially was a standard one that'd been filed. I gave it to a friend who needed one, otherwise I'd have been happy to send it to you. If you'd like to send me yours, I'd be happy to file it for you.

But first, check to see if you even need to do it - many OCLV frames are just fine. Good luck.

Thanks 55/Rad - that's very generous. I'm going to try and get one of the Trek tabs (want to keep my original) and may take you up on your offer then. Again, a big thanks for the info and the kind offer to help.

Even my old 1993 Litespeed Classic braze-on tab hung low enough with my old Campy derailleur for my compact rings.
