Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Wear your helmet!

The other day at the NYC alleycat, a pedestrian darted in front of me (I had the green). I did a faceplant on the sidewalk, hit right in the temple. My helmet has a huge dent. I got away with a sprained wrist and a bruised rib.

if you weren't wearing your helmet, you would have walked away unscathed. So there...

ouch :///

I started wearing my helmet on every ride after I fell off a few times and hit my head really really badly (luckily I was wearing my helmet these times and nothing serious came of it)

im surprised your wrist wasnt broken, it looked kinda farked right afterwards... but im damn glad to hear your ok. I felt bad afterwards i didnt give you my info to be a witness that she was crossing against the light. Are you gonna do the DUMBO alleycat??? should be much less pedestrains and much more cobblestones... =)

p.s.---seggybop, sometimes the idiot pedestrian gets rammed... and you both do a faceplant. helmet or not.

whats up crayonsemble... thank you for the much needed candy and water !!!

It was like two people in a hallway--she starts darting, so I yell "yoooooooooo!" She stops, I accelerate. She darts again, I smash into her. If she wasn't as fat as she was, I'm sure both of us would have taken more damage.

Crayonensemble--thanks for the carrots and trail mix. Gave me something to much on at the ER.

Yeah, try clocking a 200lb hunk of dough at 16mph and see if you can stay upright.

the older lady actually brought all that food and laid it all out, i went to the store and
got the 3 gallons of water. this lady ( who was really cool) apperantly made
the trail mix herself and is really into doing checkpoints. future races should
look her up through steve the cat who set up this race.
