How about a "Floyd Landis in the Media" sticky?

I imagine The Mennonite should be doing the rounds of TV interviews.

Landis would be intriguing copy even for the non-cycling public, given the drama with his come-from-behind TDF win, his strange upbringing, and his disintegrating hip.

Hopefully Letterman will get him- always had LA on every year.

Could we start a sticky on Floyd appearances on the boob tube?

The silence is deafening.

Sticky!

there's nothing special about floyd, dude. he isn't some arrogant a-hole who survived cancer to become the greatest tour de france rider ever and use his celebrity to save the world from said cancer at the same time. he's just a regular dude. people don't want that. they want superman, and until he comes back from his hip surgery and wins another tour, he won't be news.

Sadly, that's why we'll need this thread.

If we do a sighting, or if we see he's coming up on television, can we agree to post it BEFORE it hits the television, and tell everyone what time and channel and show?

Stuck!

P.S. Ex-Mennonite. He's definitely not living the nonmaterialistic, farm-ish lifestyle.

Nothing special? He's the cycling upscale Amish who completed probably the greatest single day comeback in TDF history (along with Lemond in 89') with the hip joint of an 80-year old man.

He can be made into a story, believe me

+1

He lives in Temecula, which I visit every other weekend. I wonder if I'll ever bump into him.

He already is a story that I believe in. How many times do you hear about someone who gets ahead through "hard work and patience" now days, overcomes all kinds of obstacles and WINS. This is something I like.

Last I heard he's gonna host some sort of a cycling training camp early next year in Temecula.

Price tag $3,000. Yikes.

Or you could just hang around there and just draft off them

Landis is currently building me a barn. I swapped him for a hand made Ti hip and a goat.

I would give Floyd the benefit of the doubt. Apparently, he worked on his bike, one hand holding the bike. Didn't even have a stand, until his wife bought him one.

He is definitely one admirable guy, in my book.

it's one thing for us - actual people who follow the sport - to know who he is and admire him for that. but i'd be awfully surprised to see him get even a fraction of the exposure lance has. he's too normal.
if he's able to come back from the hip and be successful again, then i'm sure the rest of the country will jump on the bandwagon.

Definitely one to admire. But just because he didn't use a work stand, doesn't mean he's automatically a Mennonite. There's a lot more to that religion than the ability to work without a bike workstand. By using automobiles, radios, airplanes, etc. he's already violated the religion several times over.

Ok- I didn't even notice until the segment was halfway over, but they had Floyd's mom on NBC this morning. I am really surprised she agreed to do the interview- though it was at her house, and she held it outside.

fwiw - Mennonites are not uncommon here in central PA, and they do use automobiles and electricity. They are in many ways similar to the Amish, but a bit more pragmatic when it comes to taking advantage of technological advances.

Floyd is front page news in the papers here.

The fact that he stepped OUT of a religion for a personal pursuit is astounding and admirable.

Not to turn this into a religious discourse, but I'm really admiring his accomplishment on a couple of different levels.
