Is this a Bianchi?
I found a nice lugged chro-moly bike recently and I hoped someone might know if it's a Bianchi or not. The fork has factory paint and a Bianchi sticker that has been clear coated. The frame however was poorly sprayed dark green with a rattle can. I tried some emery cloth to get down to some original paint or decals, but there's nothing there, just a white undercoat. A serial number on the BB is: A401294. The component group is Campy Mirage 8 speed triple, ITM stem and bars, Miche headset, and Ambrosio wheels. There are lugs and braze-ons for rack and fenders, and a pump peg. If this a Bianchi, does anyone have an idea what model it is and what kind of tubing it might be? Thanks.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the downtube changes from round to oval as it meets the bottom bracket.

I know this is a "brifter" bike, and maybe that disqualifies it from the Classic & Vintage forum, but if someone could direct me to the proper forum, I'd appreciate it. Is there a Bianchi serial # database I could search?

I cannot prove it's a Bianchi, but in your writeup and pictures I see no evidence whatsoever to the contrary. I think the "A4xxxx" serial number indicates 19_4 production, presumably 1994 in this case.

If im correct, the last two digits of the vin number is the production date. So it would be a 1994

Yeah, given the fork decal and the visible features, I'd say it smells like a Volpe (quasi-cyclocross) to me, or maybe a San Remo (touring) model. Not sure what chrome-moly tubeset Bianchi spec'd for those models in the '90s, but their Columbus "custom" drawn sets usually just had a beefier downtube, IIRC.

Looks like a Bianchi to me also & I'll give you another model possibility: I have a Bianchi Trofeo that has that fork & a frame with the same ovalized downtube at the BB, same rear dropouts, brake cable guides on the top tube & the same seat tube details from what I can see. It has Dedacciai double butted chrome moly frame & fork. Trofeo was produced late 80s through early 90s, can't help with parts details as I built mine up from a used frame with swapmeet parts. Don (edit: forgot to add that it has a very attractive variation of Celeste paint, Bianchi added a Gold Pearl clear coat on this model)

Nice!
Someday I have to get some good pics of my 3Rensho, cause it also has what I've always called "Clone-Celeste" paint. From a distance you think it's another Bianchi, but after you get close enough to read the decals you also notice a subtle gold pearl topcoat...very nice paint effect. I guessed that this was an homage to the Italians cause it also came (from Japan) as a total Campy bike and built Ishiwata but with Campy dropouts and forktips!
