The plastic rear wheel of my Microbike has broken apart. I would like to repair it. This bike is not in production anymore. It was made in Sweden around the mid 80’s. I have some general ideas of how to approach this but would appreciate any advice for details, feasibility, cost and other methods.

The following are some of the options that I am thinking about.

1. Original parts where can I still find some?

2. Another plastic or steel wheel that allows me to attach the original rear 2spd hub while still using the nylon belt. The speed is changed by back pedaling in a quick jolt action.

3. Steel wheel w/o the original hub but still uses the nylon belt with the original or a new chain ring in the front. Preferably this new hub could be 2 or 3 speed, but single speed is fine too.

4. All steel wheel and metal chains and new steel chain ring possibly with 1, 2 or 3 speed hub.

One of the rubber bellow couplings is ripping apart, is there any compound that can patch it together? I am thinking something like those 70’s as seen on TV commercial that sold a kind of putty that one can use to fix ripped vinyl.

I don't want to be negative, but I doubt you will be able to find any original parts...they haven't made those things for several years, if I am not mistaken. I think your best bet is to either change over to a chain drive(replace the whole drivetrain) or you might possibly be able to find a similar plastic wheel in some childrens bikes/toys that could take your original hub...I doubt it tho. I think there is someone who works at AtoB magazine that owns one. You might want to start there for some better advice.

I'd set up a search on eBay for another one the same that you can vulture for parts. Looks to me like it'd be hard to put that hub in another wheel.

It may be worth contacting some of the posters in that thread. From your pic's, it looks like a Strida wheel is much too big for it. Good luck.

According to this site there is a vendor in San Francisco, USA that might have Microbike parts. I'm pretty sure it's the same "Microbike".

i had the same problem--i think you can use the parts from the Strida--look at them carefully check out this strida number for parts 800 783 5683--parts for the microbike are just not available - i changed the pneumatic tires for solid ones like on motorized wheelchairs impossible to get on but the wheelchair people have a way to do it--no more flats but did add weight to the bike--i did have a metal spoked wheel rim made for the bike--cost $125.00 but added no advantage--easy to fill with air but the tires are a disaster--ps i think you can get a rear hub and wheel--once again check out the strida for parts

not really as if i recall it uses a stand pvc pipe with a very small screw holding it in place in the hub

went to nycewheels to day in NY--forget all they do is sell the strida gave me a possible place for parts aeroware--hecked it's site to no avail--if you think of buying the Strida you maybe out of luck if you need parts or repair--incidentally the front chainring on the strida is smaller than the one on the microbike but I believe it could work--told teh guy at Nycewheel about the microbike and may want to look it up on the net--no one was in the stodre or working in the back--said he was to busy--i told him you might learn about folding bikes there--forget it it was a waste of time.--the place is a hole in eh wall and appears to just sell folding bikes--i was not impressed and moved on

Microbike spare parts: I own 2 such bikes myself and researched the spare part situation years ago ! One company bought (most of ?) the stock
of factory spare parts - they are called "Fridham Bicycle & Sport" in Malmö, Sweden. Find the address through directories enquieries. Years ago I talked to "Shell". Good luck - let me know !
