Dahon Speed P8 Porn
A long time lurker. Thanks to reading some interesting comments from these boards, I have upgraded my 2004 Dahon Speed P8 which is my daily commuter. Although I have been generally pleased with the bike, the poor quality of the rear spokes coupled with the constant chain jumping led me to perform the following upgrades:
1. Replace the rear wheel and derailleur with a Nexus 8 Speed Hub and Alex DA16 Rim -- hopefully the increased spoke count and quality of spokes will help. I had to replace no less than 5 spokes on the old rim.
2. Upgrade the saddle from the BioLogic seat to a Performance cheap-o that is much firmer
3. Nashbar Trekking Bar -- I was looking for this bar after seeing my local LBS mechanic's bike. Thanks to these forums I was able to find them on the cheap on e-bay. The tape job and component transfer was fairly trivial.
4. iPod Shuffle and Creative Labs portable speakers. No more arguments on headphones while riding please
5. MKS Folding pedals -- this was performed after the default el chepos from dahon broke after about 300 miles. Sheesh.
6. Bike Planet 10W Bulb. Another Performance BIke Special purchase. You know what these forums need? More Performance Bike Advertisements...
7. Super sweet Target Bottle holder. This was a total find. It compresses nicely and gets out of the way of the fold for the most part.

Nice mods! ...But what happens to all the stuff when you have to fold the stem?
