Will a 3/32" wide chainring work on a 1/8" wide chain and cog?
My new (to me) track bike came with two 3/32 cogs and chains. I think the 42T chainring (144mm bolt circle) is also 3/32". I just got my DA hi-flange 32 spoke 3X Mavic Reflex tubular wheelset built by my LBS and while I was there I bought a DA 16 teeth cog in a 1/8" width and a matching 1/8" Sram chain.
My question to some FG old timers is will the real track cog and chain work with the old chainring?
I ordered a 44T TA chainring in the 1/8" width online but would like to ride the bike soon, like tommorrow, hence my question. Thanks. Gerry

Thanks guys! If it fits will it cause me any unusual wear issues? When the correct width 44T chainring arrives I will bolt it on as I really prefer the 44X16 ratio (74.4") for spinning down the hills around here and not having to touch my brakes. Yes I run BOTH front and rear ones; just in case. Gerry

no i dont think you will notice any unusual wear on your gear, especially if you have a nice and straight chainline. i know a few track racers who use 3/32nd stuff with a 1/8th chain.
while i cant say this for a fact (i am just hypothesizing), i would imagine that any wear that would happen would be on the 3/32nd stuff you are getting rid of anyway, as the chain might have a little side to side movement that might wear it down a bit quicker than normal. i dont think this will be an issue at all though. anyone is welcome to correct me if I am wrong.

i've been running a 1/8" chain on a 3/32" drivetrain for a while. no problems reported thus far. since the chain can move a bit more laterally i suppose the rollers could possibly wear against the valleys between the teeth with a bad chainline, but it hasn't been an issue for me.
