Robin Hood Lenton Sports?

Does anyone know anything about these? Specifically, did they have the same geometry as the Raleigh Lenton's? Were they made with Reynolds 531 Tubing? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

My knowledge of them is very limited but I know that Lenton's were 531 tubing and if it is in the Sports lineup it should be the same geometry as the Raleigh Sports. Sheldon Brown has a good article on the Lenton Sports Series.

Thanks Wahoonc. I have read the Lenton Article on Retro Raleighs. Unfortunately it doesn't make any reference to a Robon Hood Lenton Sport. I know Raleigh also sold Lenton bikes under different names such as the Rudge Pathfinder but I have not seen a Robin Hood version until recently when one was advertised for sale locally. The Seller states that it is a ten speed which also muddy's the waters as I am only familiar with the Lentons with 3, 4 and 8 speeds.

Now that is interesting...I wonder if it was converted somewhere along the way? I saw a Raleigh Sports a while back that had been converted to a 15 speed with a Nevar Triple crank...so you never know what will show up.

The Seller is actually selling the bike as a 3 three speed but states that it was converted to a three speed from a ten speed. So who knows what the bike started out as.

I have a Lenton Sports Robin Hood that I think is a ten speed. Pardon my butchery of bike part terms as I know nothing about them, but

It has the original Huret gear cluster in the back that has 5 sets of teeth rings and the original crank shaft in front says "Nervar" and it has 2 sets of gears. The derralleur is a Huret Allvit.

I bought it at a garage sale because I liked the paint job on th frame and saddle so much. I'm not sure how to describe the color, but its sort of copper/Gold and the Lenton Sports lettering on the tube is awesome retro.

The Wright Saddle Co. Ltd. seat is practically new. Rich black color now that I conditioned it and barely a mark.

I don't know what to do with the whole thing, but my first bike was a Raleigh Colt and my second was a Raleigh Super Record, so I knew a bike from Nottingham was probably going to be sturdy.

Anyone know where I can find out anything about the Lenton/Robin Hood connection?

I know the Raleigh 3 speed Robin Hoods look like 60's or 70's bikes, but my untrained hunch is this Lenton Robin Hood

10 speed (?) is just a bit older. The paint, the components, the saddle and even the font of the painted block lettering looks to me like a bike from the Eisenhower/Kennedy era.

Please post any info on production years or numbers as I'm either going to fix it all up to newish condition or transplant parts from my Super Record or trade all three vintage bikes for one old but not vintage road bike.

Chris, I had one of those pass through my hands awhile back. Pic below. It looked like a late 60s or early 70s 10-speed. Fairly heavy, stamped dropouts, and narrow seatpost, so definitely not a 531 frame. I did like the style of the decals.

The bike I found last week looks just like yours. I pretty confident mine is all original. I don't know if this helps but as I disassemble the parts and clean them up, here's what I have found as standard equipment:

Nervar 3-bolt cottered crankset with 52t and 40t chainrings.
Chain made in England by Hans Renold Co.
Wide flange front hub with Raleigh Industries marking and 32 spokes
Rear flange is a "Flip Flop" hub with 40 spokes. No RI marking that I can see
Both rims are marked Sturmey Archer 27x1 1/4
5 cogs on the freewheel
Lockring but no cog on the fixed side of the rear hub.
Wright Saddle Co. model W3ST
Sidepull brakes and levers marked Made in England. Maybe by "Dunelt"?

I can put up some pics if you want to see any of it.

Definitely want the pictures...we are all "visual" people around here!

Wrights saddles are certainly equal to the Brooks, just not as well known. I have a Wrights 5N that I have been riding on a variety of bikes for close to 30 years.

IIRC mine has the number designation under the name in the stamping on the side of the saddle. I will have to look at mine again when I get home.

My Dad sold Raleighs for many years from the 50's to 1978. I remember seeing a gold Robin Hood 10 speed road bike on the floor for sale with Huret derailleurs and down tube shifers. Always thought that the Lenton brand was used for 3 speed models. There were so many of these English brands around-Raleigh, Rudge, Lenton, Robind Hood, 3 Spires, BSA, etc. !
