Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Camelbak Bottle Micro-Review

I picked one of the 750ml ones up, and figured I might as well do a short review here.

As some folks have noted, the 750ml's will not fit into a bike bottle cage. Fortunately, the top is a standard size, so you can put it onto one of your regular water bottles. The straw is 7" long, so with my bottle this left 100ml at the bottom that I couldn't drink without removing the top.

Long story short, it's not perfect, but (so far) it's better than either a standard bottle or a hydropack. Hopefully Camelbak will tweak the bottle size a little bit for cyclists at some point.

Compared to a Water Bottle
• Much easier to drink
• Can leave the valve open for quick drinking, without any spills
• Supposedly dishwasher safe, so should be just as easy to clean
• Heavier (not for weight weenies)
• Carrying tab is a little annoying on a bike

Compared to a Hydropack
• No back sweat!!!
• Same valve / draw
• Much easier to clean (so I think you can use it with energy drinks)
• Won't keep liquids cool (and the straw isn't deep enough to use with a Polar bottle)
• You can tell how much liquid you've consumed
• You probably won't drink quite as much as with a regular hydropack

I bought one last year and love the concept but found it too much of a PITA to squeeze into my bottle cages. It's been demoted to my office water bottle. I wish they could've made the bottle a standard cage, it would've been a great product. I have seen others carrying them so I guess there are cages that will fit it but I haven't bothered with it too much.

I have one that I use at the gym. I like it a lot, except as noted above you can't use it in a cage. I put the bottle itself in the dishwasher, but when I put the top in the dishwasher, it softened the straw and it bent. Since then I only put the bottle in the dishwasher.

FYI, you can put the top onto a regular bottle.

But I do think it's made more for hikers, and to compete with Nalgene, than for cyclists.

They might fit on one brand of water bottles, but I have several water bottles with several incompatible tops.

I use Polar bottles. The lid fits but as the OP said, the straw doesn't reach the bottom of the bottles. I'd say it ends a good 1-2" above the bottom.
