Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My 07/07/07 Ride

Yesterday, July 7, 2002 (07/07/07) I joined the Edmonton Cycle Touring Club in the Nordegg area, just west of where I live, and had a very nice day out there cycling, hiking, and eating. That club puts on a good event!

We met near Nordegg and cycled west past Abraham Lake (the bright blue lake in some of the photos) to the Siffleur Falls entrance (approx. 60 kms), then three of us hiked the 8 km round trip in to see the falls, and then we cycled back to the Nordegg area for supper.

Surprisingly few people come out to this part of the world ... and that's great! It's a beautiful highway, with very little traffic. Perfect!!

Very Nice Machka, how far is that from Edmonton?

I can't remember the Rockies being that close to Edmonton...

I'm not in Edmonton ... the Edmonton club came down to my area of the world! I'm in central Alberta.

Thats what I thought...

I seen the mountains and the first thought was 'Where are there mountains with in reasonable bicycle striking distance?'

Lucky to be so close to the Rockies, I love that area!

+ about 10 million...

Machka, again you show me why I ALWAYS enjoy reading your posts......fabulous scenery there. It makes me feel very slighted living in Southern New Jersey.

Cheers,

Brian

It would be pretty hard for me to do a non-stop ride of any sort through there ... I just feel so compelled to stop and take pictures or even just to look at it all.

Beautiful pics. It's great being able to enjoy the sights where you ride. I'm surprised that you only rode 120k. That's not like you at all.

I rode A LOT last weekend, so this weekend was kind of a rest weekend, in a way.
