Psimet Invitational-Come Ride! SW-WI, NW-IN, NE-IL

WHAT: Open invitation to the second annual Psimet Invitational - a ride for BF members (and lurkers)

WHEN: September 29, 2007. 8:00am, 10:45am, 1:15pm depending on your route.

WHERE: The location of the start of the ride will be the Hampshire Forest Preserve.

Map Showing Hampshire Forest Preserve

FORMAT: This ride will have a Century (100 mile) route, a Metric Century (62 mile) route, and a Half-Metric Century (31 mile) route.

The Century riders will start first at 8:00am. They will ride a 38 mile route ending back at the starting point. The Metric Century riders should be at the starting point, ready to leave with the Century riders at 11:00 am. This larger group will then ride the second leg (31 miles) and end up back at the start point. This group will then meet up with the Half-Metric riders for the final leg (31 miles).

This routing option affords a lot of opprtunites for riders to choose and create their own routes. It also provides a chance for people from farther away to get there later and still be able to ride a metric or half-metric with everyone.

Also keep in mind the later you start the more miles everyone else will have in their legs.

No-Drop rule for the first 2 legs (could effect start times of second and third leg, but probably won’t – just be flexible). Faster riders will be allowed to ride at their own speed, but a sweep rider will be available for slower riders. Thinking about running an A and B group this year.

Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There are optional stops (convenience stores) on the first 2 legs. The idea is that you bring your own and leave it in your car. Each time we return to the car you will then stock up for the next 30-mile ride.

Cue-sheets and maps will be provided. No road markings, but some of us know the route pretty well.

Currently we have no mechanical SAG support. If someone could bring a spouse or friend to help fill that role – it would be great!

WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for Bike Forums members to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. It is also meant as an opportunity for riders to challenge themselves in a “safe environment”. If you have never ridden a century (Imperial, Metric, or even Half-Metric) before you will be surrounded by a lot of riders that have that can lend you support.

Feel free to bring non-BF riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.

Please feel free to post any questions that you might have, and please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

C'mon now. Oprah friggin' Winfrey completed the Chicago Marathon. Has she completed a Psimet Century?

Show some real respect, aham.

Or else you ride sweep all day so we don't ruin your little jogging side habit.

Hmmm. The just ride a metric, or even just 30. You can handle that can't you?

Of course this is going on the weekend my wife's friends are coming to town. Let's see, be a crappy husband and get in some quality saddle time whilst ditching her or go along with them as they shop for crap I don't care about, tell stories I've heard a hundred times, and waste one of the last good weather riding weekends of the year. I know which one I want to choose, but ultimately I know which one I will choose.

Hope you guys have fun.

Yeehaw. I like the format because if I start getting tired, then I can just quit in the middle. Like a little girl. That I am.

Does a Coleman full of cold Old Styles count as a tavern?

I love carbo-loading.

Working

No chance of getting day off. Not that it matters. Its my wive's birthday that day and I've only got about 400 miles in this year, and none in the last month. You think I sucked last year, imagine how bad it would be this year.

Have fun and post pictures..

she sure did, i think. well, i guess i have no clue if she did. i would take a venture that i could walk it faster then she ran it. however, if i had to ask, how long did it take YOU (CyLowe) to run your last marathon? i'm not saying, i'm just saying. later.

Don't worry, we've all been committed at some point or another, or at the very least need to be...

Well, now you know 'when' it's not going to be, right? Ample time to select another birthday party date!

C'mon, people. Too many regrets in this thread! Where are the affirmative RSVP's?
