www.njbikemap.com Ummm, safe is a relative term to me. Old Route 30 from near Collingswood in Camden down to Atlantic City has been used by RAAM riders. Check the color codes at njbikemap.com and select the types of roads you like. Mind the Pine Barrens at Night, Jersey Devil, you know.

Besides njbikemap.com, another good resource is local legend Bill Cotton: https://www.billcotton.com. There are also several big charity rides that go from Philadelphia to the shore: the ACS and MS 150 rides, for example; you might be able to get cues through a local club like BCP.

Philly to Ocean City, NJ (OCNJ) Route:
i have gone this way, years ago (1980, 1981, and 1985). a friend completing x-USA returned to philly in 2006 through this route (solo, female). like others have discribed, the traffic is amped, particularly until you hit tuckahoe road. riding into OCNJ in summer vacation peak is for experienced vehicular bicyclists as well. below is a suggestion.
1) start point iis Ben Franklin Bridge. you can ride across free (check out DRPA for restrictions, times, etc)
2) in Camden, NJ at the base of bridge stairs, go to Broadway and head south towards/through Gloucester City, Brooklawn, Westville, where routs 45, 130, 551, and 47 merge. enter route 47 (Delsea dr)
3) on Delsea drive (47) through Deptford, bear Left at New Sharon crossing rt 55 to 5 points.
4) at 5 points (rt 47, blackwood rd, 41, and Egg Harbor Road -EHR), go straight onto EHR
5) follow EHR to make a Left onto Hurfville/Crosskeys road
6) follow crosskeys road to turn Right onto rt 557 / Tuchahoe road
7) go through Milmay on 557, cross rt 552
8) on rt 557, inter Corbin City after merge with route 50
9) stay on routes 557/50 through tuchahoe to split in Middletown to light (past community center on right, there is a bar accross from this light) this is rt 630/631
10) turn Left onto 630/631 (bar/light) rt 50 goes straight
11) stay on this road. you will cross Dennisville road, route 9, go under the NJ Parkway,to 34th street bridge into OCNJ.
This is about 75 miles, pretty flat, but with heavy traffic.
have fun and spin safe,
tomg

If you're looking for a bed & breakfast, Cape May is probably the best destination.
The worst part of the ride would be getting over the BFB and through Camden...not the safest place.
If you can somehow get over the Comm. Barry Bridge, you can take Rt. 322, to Rte. 50, to Route 9, all the way to the capemay point lighthouse...or inter-mingle the routes that tomg pointed out as well.
FWIW...i ride from Glouscester County to North Wildwood every Friday early afternoon in the warmer months. 62 miles. if you're every interested, send send me a PM.

Until you clarified, I thought you were talking about Jersey Shore, PA
