Australian Tour 2008

Through the wonders of modern technology, I have been able to load my tour log onto my website almost as it happens. This won't continue for too much longer, I just happen to have access to a computer for a few days, but I thought it would be nice to start documenting my tour right away this time, rather than waiting 3 months like I did for my European Tour this past summer.

So, here it is ... the first few days ...

BTW - some answers to a couple questions in another thread ...

1) Yep, I got a new bicycle! I talk about that in my log.

2) There will be loaded touring involved in this tour, but not just yet. I'm getting settled in ... getting over jet lag, and getting used to the heat. It was -6C on the day I left Edmonton, but prior to that we'd had 2-3 weeks of -20C to -46C weather. Going from that to +30C is a bit of a jolt ... but a VERY pleasant one. I could get used to this weather very easily.

I brought Machak with me on this trip for the touring part, but I have a mtn bike here, and yesterday evening Rowan and I went for a ride on the trails up toward the mountain behind his place. It was the first time in years and years that I've ridden a mtn bike on trails!! I struggled a bit, and was off and walking every time there was a fallen branch or something, or a bit of a narrow, rocky descent, so I definitely will not be entering any mtn bike races in the near future, but overall, it wasn't too bad.

Hope you're enjoying the trip.

machka,
I can't get to your page 3. Gives me a 'page not found' page.

Sorry, page 3 is still under construction ... I should have it up in the next few days. I may even have a page 4 then too!

Bikes: More bicycles than I can ride at one time: 2 custom made tourers, a Brompton 6-speed, and an Indian-made roadster.

Bicycling..

Hey C...

I just sent an e-mail after reading your 2004 Manitoba tour on your web site. McCreary, breakfast, the A&W, and...

WOW!! It is a small world. My brother still talks about meeting both of you at the Dauphin A&W. :-)

I have updated Pages 1 and 2 with words and photos. I've got words on Pages 3 and 4 too, but few photos yet.
