Garmin 705 Group Buy
I posted in another thread about this but thought Id put it out on it's own.
Is anyone interested in a group buy on the full 705 bundle? This includes the unit, SD card with NA maps, heart rate and cadence. I can do a group buy through my local LBS for $580 plus $8.00 for shipping. Ill handle all the shipping, etc.. I just wanted to see if there was any interest.
The distributor does have them in stock so Im thinking maybe a 2 week GB and then Ill order and reship them from the LBS.
Please dont ask about a GB for the base unit or the one without the maps. To keep it simple and avoid headaches, Im only going to do this one model.

It sounds like a great deal, and I'd be interested. But maybe later in the year. The real power of the 705 is it's integration with power meters, but have any of those even been released yet?
Plus, I already have the cadence, speed, HRT sensors from the 305 and this deal is only for the whole shebang.
Maybe others are not posting for similar reasons.

I really dont know if there will be a price break. The LBS I deal with quoted me the price I listed here.. I was hoping at 10 units he might lower it a little more. I dont know if he will or not.
As soon as the buy has run it's course, Ill pay him and have him order the units. After that, Id say a 7-10 days to get them into your hands. They have to ship from the distributor to him, I have to drive up there and get them (110 miles round trip) and then reship them.
Also, I have no stake in this whatsoever.. Im not making a dime, in fact, Im losing money because I have to drive up and get the stuff but the LBS owner is a friend of mine and I wanted to try to help out my fellow BF members.. so I decided to try to put this together for everyone. Ill be handling all shipping so as to make sure everything ends up where its supposed to in a timely manner.

Ok I need to ask...how is this different from the unit that is for sale from Performance for $549? Other than the fact that they don't have it. I am guessing it is the SD card with the maps....

Ok so I found it on the Garmin site...the map SD card is $149 for the North American maps.
Hmm...do I need the maps? ie do I need to upgrade to this over my 305?

I bought mine from REI with a 15% off coupon, which I passed on to other members here. REI quickly invalidated that coupon after several of us used it.

The SD card is the only difference. The maps are a must IMO tho.. my unit has them and without them, youve really got nothing over a 305 with a larger color screen.
Someone might beat this price once people actually get them and put them on Ebay but I know what the profit is on these things and I doubt anyone will want to sell them this cheap. He's not giving them away but if I wasnt doing all the work, he'd never sell them this cheap.

Jay, am I going to have to pay tax? - I'm in NC
I was planning to buy the unit without the card and use my own, but I'll consider going this route.

Well.. considering the less than lukewarm reception.. it may not go through anyway. I dont want to do it without having 10 units and it doesnt look like thats gonna happen.

Jeff... since youre local, I might can swing you one at that price whether the group buy happens or not. Let me call the LBS today and see if he's willing to sell just one at that price.
