$10 Garage Sale Huffy mark 10

I just rode by and this thing caught my eye. For $10, I figured what the heck. It's a Huffy Mark 10, in sad, sad shape. I've a link to some picks I snapped in the back yard, haven't cleaned or touched a thing, so far. Best part is, the original owner's manual and spare parts list were in the rather beat up saddle bag, along with a couple of adjustment tools. Can anyone tell me anything about this monster (weighs a ton)...

An english huffy? Cool seat bag! I hope the leather is reconditionable! And the Benelux drivetrain is too cool!

that does seem to be the case, early 60's model maybe. Were these commonly rebadged?

I've seen it with 3 speeds, so it isn't a huge stretch for a 5. I'd guess 1968-ish more than 1962-ish, but I think we suffer from a lack of experts in all things Huffy.

I think Huffy did buy and rebadge Raleigh stuff, though it would be lower line Raleigh. This one bears a strong resemblance to the old AMF Hercules 10 speed, as well as others in the style. I would guess late 50's based on the Benelux RD with suicide FD.

Are the wheels 26 inch?

Nice find for $10!

After un-caking some of the years of grime, I found the serial number...

59926
N
CA

If nothing else, getting the Benelux working again will be a fun challenge.

Yes, the wheels are 26 X 1 1/4 Dunlap White Sprites. Unfortunately in utterly unridable shape.

Bikes: one of each

Those tires are interchangable with Schwinn's "26x1 3/8". The LBS usually won't have them but Harris does and so does Ebay.
Now I have to go and check all the Huffys on Craigslist.

I am amazed. That has to be the best production Huffy ever made. I remember hearing that Raleigh would make you a bike and call it anything you wanted, if you ordered 100 or more. I think that is where Robin Hood's came from. But I didn't even know Huffy was in existence this long ago. Good job! and $10...double good!

Started making bicycles in 1894 under the Dayton name, introduced Huffy name in 1949. In 1953, all bikes were labled Huffy.

Huffy ... English and Ohio

Hi ... thanks for the great thread. I was Goggling to see what my original English, single speed Huffy might be worth since we are making room in an overcrowded basement. Wife said keep it .... It is the guy version with cross bar. I also ran into an older Ohio made Huffy for the girls. Can't seem to find anything as far as value ... I may look at Ebay for reference. The English Huffy is all original except for tires, handle grips, seat and the additional of foam on the handle bar and electric lights.

We have a valuation forum for that purpose - no reason to drag up a year-old post.
