Lets build the most expensive bike we can!
So I came up with this idea after talking to some bike guys that didnt know much about high end audio equipment. When I told them they could spend easily 20 grand on esoteric amps, like Mark Levension, Madrigal, etc and 100 grand on not even a top shelf system they were floored. So I got to wondering what the most expensive bike you could build would cost. Not the best, not the nicest, just the most expensive if you paid full retail for each component.
I will get things started
SRAM Power Pro Crankset-$3600 I think that is the retail price.
Add your component or replace one already on the list with a more expensive and then update the grand total.
Total-$3600.00

But it is going on the bike so the new total is $3920.00

LEW Racing Pro VT-1 Custom with wheelbags, full ceramic bearings, and balancing: ~$16000.
$3920 + $16000 + $3270 = $23190.

Ok for this to work we have to know what component you are adding to the build pile and the new running total. Maybe someone can figure how to make a list that we can change like some of those chain emails that come around.

AX-Lightness Orion brake calipers: $1700.

SwissStop Yellow King brake pads: $40.
$23190 + $1700 + $143 + $40 = $25073.

Obviously this will all still be cheaper than Theo Bos's million-dollar Koga...

It looks like more could be spent by breaking up the component set. Here is a RD:
https://www.glorycycles.com/lirdcafirede.html - $1,149.90
Also, bottle cages need to be switch to 2x:
https://www.glorycycles.com/carecaca.html - $224.90 (x2) = $449.80
Because they are more expensive... and because.. they are Record...
Shifter cables:
https://www.glorycycles.com/noroshcacase.html - $299

Wow! Almost $40,000.00 and we still need lots of stuff. Handlebar, stem, headset, bar tape, seatpost, seat, seat collar, tires, tubes, waterbottle screws, etc.

Speaking of AX Lightness, $511.50 (380 Euro) for the Phoenix saddle and $529 (393 Euro) for the Daedalus Seatpost.
So we have as of right now:
$3,600 Cranks
$16,000 Wheels
$1,883 Brakes/Pads
$12,500 Frame (if we're doing the TT thing)
$1,149 RD (I like going with individual parts rather than the Super Record groupset, it will be more expensive this way)
$449 Bottle cages
$299 Shifter cables
$511 Saddle
$529 Seatpost
So that's $36,920 without shifters or FD.
Anybody know of any tires that cost more than Dugast?
EDIT: So far I've got $440 for a pair of 700x25 Dugast Touring tires.

So far including the $440 pair of Dugast tires we're at $37,360.
Edit: And we already have a really confused TT bike with Touring tires mounted on deep section wheels, and a seatpost that won't fit in that frame.
Edit again: RepartoCorse.com has the SRAM Power Pro cranks for $4000, so that brings us to $37,760.
