Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

specific FG riders? yes. but it has nothing to do with their choice of bike.

Only if they're hipsters, because I hate hipsters.

*puts on an ironic A-Team t-shirt with a vintage tweed jacket with leather elbows and rides his FG to the coffee shop*

Yes. Usually, when I'm passing them at about double their speed, I will call back over my shoulder, "Tell your mom to put in a little overtime and buy you some gears and brakes!"

I might even throw in a racial slur.

At 5'11" (and without cowboots on) so I look down on *most* ALL female riders regardless of what they're riding. I look up to a minority of male riders, I look down on another minority of male riders and see the average male rider eye to eye.

Bikes: Steelman eurocross, Surly CrossCheck, IRO Rob Roy...

If you feel you're being "look down" upon there is probably a good reason. Riding around like a weak, talentless jackass will get head shakes from 99% of the public... not to mention the cycling community as a whole.

This happened to me. Just the other day I was trackstanding at a red light when I tipped over. I heard laughter, and when I looked up, the cycling community as a whole was laughing at me. Pointing and laughing from the windows 30,000 chartered buses.

Talk about embarrassing...
