Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dura Ace / FSA Mega Exo

Hello, all. I've got a quick question. I was talking a buddy, and wasn't sure if what I was saying was true. I remember some pros a little while back were running Dura Ace 7800 cranks with FSA ceramic bottom brackets. Are they threaded the same? Can you use FSA and 7800 Dura Ace cranks and bottom brackets interchangeably? I know someone on BFs will know the answer.

They are interchangeable. I'm running FSA SLK-K cranks with a D/A BB on my cross bike and it's been fine for almost a year...never touched it.
One of the guys I ride with was having trouble with his FSA cranks and the shop didn't have anything to loan him while it went back for warranty, so I threw my spare D/A crank on his bike. It worked perfectly with his FSA BB...not a creak for 3 months.

The dimensions of the FSA BBs are all the same...regular or ceramic!

So basically what I was wondering was "Can you use a DA crank w/ FSA bb, and an FSA crank with a DA bb?" Damocles says, "yes." At least to DA crank with an FSA BB.
That's really what we started off talking about last night and then I started wondering if the reverse were true.

Thanks! If anyone else has experience with these setups, I'd love to hear about them!

I also wrote that I was using a FSA cranks with a D/A BB on my cross bike...

You can flip flop the cranks and BBs freely...

The answer is yes across the board...

Does anyone know if Truvativ/Sram external bb's are also interchangeable with Shimano and FSA? I need a new bb on my track bike (it has Omniums).

That's a "no," I believe. I'm 99% sure it won't work. Their GXPs are a totally different setup.

Nope, won't work...
Different axle diameters on the cranks themselves, thus, different bearing I.D.s are necessary.

From: The West Side (Of Rochester, NY).

Bikes: Light.

Shimano Hollowtech II and FSA Mega-EXO are the same damn thing.

Truvativ/SRAM GXP uses a smaller internal diameter for the cups and a different binding mechanism on the NDS crankarm. Neither will allow the use of a GXP standard crank in a Shimano/FSA bottom bracket without modifying something.

Kinda what I was thinking.
