Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How did he get it up to 17 pounds with a fixed gear? Lead rims?

WTF? 57 gear inches? I ride 83 in an area with lots of steep hills... on a bike that is quite heavy and noodly compared to that.

Oh yeah... *rabble* misuse of CAAD9 *rabble*

at least he'll be riding it. A waste would be leaving the bike to collect dust in the garage.

...which is exactly why I did the conversion.

A real waste of that frame & fork was seeing it do little more than decorating my wall (It did look great up there tho. )

I think I stuffed up the weigh-in, it feels lighter than 17lb.

That's what I had at hand at the time. It's running 45/18 now, 67 gear inches.... that's all my 42 year old knees will let me do comfortably, and my choice of ratios is limited by the chainstay length.

It's hard to find a nice aluminum frame for a fixed bike that doesn't have a track geometry, so I like what he did. I've ridden a track aluminum frame for 60 miles once and it wasn't the most enjoyable ride.

Nothing wrong with a Caad9 single speed. We just moved part time to Florida, and I really don't understand why anybody would buy a geared bike to ride here. A caad 9 geared pretty high sounds good to me.

Nah... turns out I miscalculated that... it's actually 53-16. I might back that off though, might try an 18t on the rear.

Props to cyclaholic for riding fixie at 40+... any particular reason for it? I only ride it so I can lock the bike up outside in any condition, and if someone steals it, i'm only out $50 and not the ~$2k for my road bike.

I love when people on here act like the CAAD9 is some kind of super-rare uber frame. There's a ton of them out there and they aren't all that expensive.

Why get your panties in a bunch because the dude made it something enjoyable for him?
