Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 Steel Specialized Allez

Anyone seen the 2010 Specialized Allez Steel? It has Downtube shifters, 8 spd.....etc....What a cool bike. We got a few in stock today in the store I work at. I may need to pick one up to use as a bad weather/rec ride bike.......$610.00
Here are a few pics.

Bikes: 2009 Specialized Allez

After riding a steel bike today for the first time I think I wouldn't mind having one of those. What is the price tag?

What's the advantage of the shifters on the downtube on a new bike? to lower the cost?

+1. No idea, I hate DT shifters though.

Whats the price? I'm going to be looking for a commuter bike to get around campus for college next fall and that thing looks like it would fit the bill nicely.

Shimano 2300 deraileurs, SLR400 shifters, Alex wheels........ Basic better than average budget components.

That bike is a sweet idea. DT shifters are low maintenance, steel is durable. This thing would be a great commuter that still has a bit of get up and go.

Nice!

If Specialized can somehow lower the price to 500, they would have a hard time keeping that in stock. Always have people coming in looking for $400-500 road bikes

My LBS owner friend was laughing at this bike. He said he would never order one for the shop because he's sure to be stuck with it. I'm pretty sure someone will think it's cool but I bet you can find a great used Ultegra/105 bike for the same price. I don't have a retro gene in my body FWIW.

Just wait until next August and you could probably get it for $300 on closeout.

We only ordered a few but I am pretty sure we will be selling through them pretty fast. Many people do not want a used bike. They want a bike that they know is the correct size and they want a shop that is willing to listen to them and get them on the right bike. This is a great bike for the beginning recreational rider or a seasoned rider looking for a #2 bike or a foul weather bike. It will also appeal to the guy like me who simply appreciates the retro look and feel.

I've never ridden with tube shifters, but that bike looks really nice and a good price. definitely a good second bike.

I think this bike is going to be very regional on where it sells.

The shop i work at is in a college town. Every day, we have students looking to buy a road bike for $400-500 (to do triathlons!). When we tell them $750 is the lowest we have new, they get sticker shock. Unfortunately, we are not a specialized dealer

I didn't see that bike, but I did see a 2010 Tarmac Expert in Naked Carbon and it was totally badass.

I can't believe it! I had said this a couple years ago that IF the Big Boys made a D.T. shifted bike, they could have a sweet entry level price model. The thing I am a little suprised at is why not use the standard Al frame of the base Al Allez bike, and then they could probably get the tubing even cheaper based on volume?

I know, not retro to go with the d.t. shifters! At least it looks like an 1 1/8" steerer tube for a carbon fork if someone wants one!

im all for steel bikes, but i think downtube shifters was a bad choice. DT shifters are "old skool" but why bother when STI's are clearly supirior. anyone who enjoys DT shifters would probably be much happier on an real vintage machine.

DT shifters are great for commuting - rugged, very low maintenance and easy to repair. Add a steel frame to that and you have a fast yet very tough bike.

STIs are considerably more expensive. You would have to cut a lot of corners to get down to that price point with STI's
