Hey all you bike experts. I got a question for you.

When I ride my track bike and decide to impress the ladies, I ride without any hands. When I do that, I and my bike lean to the right. I have to tilt my upper body to the left to not fall over, but even doing that, I veer to the right. A friend on this site suggested maybe my back wheel was off alignment or even the stays were off centered.

I check that and the two suggestions seem fine. Another friend said I should sit back on the seat more. Ill try that going home today.

Anybody else have an idea on whats my problem?

(Oh and I should say, that I can ride perfectly straight without any hands on my road bike.)

Take the change from the right pocket and insert into left pocket. Same with wallet. Then, double knot the laces on the left shoe and part your hair on the right side. If this does not take care of it well............... it means that your right leg is more dominant than the left and you just need to be more aware of making your spin more even. Worked for me...I mean the change in pocket thing.....

Do you have a ss freewheel you can put on? If so, try coasting and see if it still pulls...if it does then you likely have an alignment problem.

Going back to my thread. Ill pay attention to my right leg and see if that has something to do with it.

Left side of body- cell phone
Right side of body- wallet and keys... well damn auk, you might be on to something. Ill switch up my things and get back to you on that.

it could also be that your seat is not in alignment.

First thing I did was I checked my seat, so thats ok. Ill try and pin point it down when I get off work in a few minutes.

is the frame straight?
axle bent?
misaligned wheel (front or back)?
wind?

I've had that same problem, and I always wondered if it was because the right side of the bike is heavier with the drivetrain...

the comments about frame and wheel alignment are all pertinent. if the bicycle's wheels are not rotating in the same plane (and there are many potential causes for this), then their individual gyroscopic effects will essentially compete with one another, and you will have to provide some sort of external moment relative to your plane of motion to restore things; that is, you have to lean to one side.

i'm not convinced that a sufficiently misaligned setup would necessarily be visible to the naked eye. do your best to align/straighten everything, but you may have to live with the lean (that is, find another way to impress the ladies).

Also, get a nice long level and lay it on the road perpendicular to your preferred travel direction. The street may need adjusting.

Why does this remind me of political\ military thinking?

I was having the same problem with my beater. I thought I could see that the fork was out of allignment so I bashed it into a wall to straighten it. After installing a new fork it still leans.

Was the wall straight?

Straighter than the fork I bashed into it. It turns out that fork was already straight, but not anymore. Anyone know where I can get a fork straightened?

Intrigued by your thread, I rode no hands today at lunch and lo and behold, I leaned to the right too! Might have to factor in that I was doing it in traffic and if I leaned to the left I'd soon be leaning on my back, 6 feet under!

try the other wall. You might have used the "de-straightener" wall

I think you may have something there [165]. I'm just not sure if I should bash the previously bashed blade back or should I bash the other one to match the already bashed one. I think I will try a different wall.

Well, in this case, the suggestion that the road is at fault may be relevant. Assuming you're riding on the right side of the road, you're probably succumbing to the crowning of the pavement. Find a flat parking lot or a deserted stretch of road that you know will not have any traffic and ride on the other side to see if it pulls to the left.
