Tube socks - yay or nay?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tube socks - yay or nay?

I like wearing tube socks with cycling shorts and jersey, but always feel that other cyclists are laughing at me. Even though I shouldnt care what other people think, and I've seen Armstrong wear these in the Armstron chronicles, I'd like to know what you all think about it.

if you don't mind them getting soaked with sweat and peeling them off your feet at the end of a ride, then they are fine. for short distances, i have no problem using them. my feet usually get pretty wet though, so a pair of real cycling socks works best for me.

Bad for mositure, but if you're bold enough to wear them I'll give you some style points.

Russell Athletics makes these moisture removing socks that you can buy for cheap in bulk at Costco. They are regular crew socks. I don't think you'll silly...

Then again, I did a tri with a $56 Roadmaster from Walmart.

with the ends cut off and used as arm warmers you'd get some style points. on your feet, well...if the sock fits, wear it.

How much are those?......if they work I'd try 'em. Socks wear out quick anyway....why pay $10 for a pair?

F*** these tools. I'm sure they will snicker if your cleats and wrist watch don't match the rest of your ensemble. Probably talk behind your back for not moisturizing your face before rides also.

Are you riding with girls?

No offense if you are a girl, however.

"Tools"????

What's got you all worked up 53?
It's about the ride baby. If you want fashion, go to a fashion show.

On the other hand, if wearing the 'in' thing and feeling like you look good makes you feel better and ride faster, then by all means feel free.

My point in all this is simply that I can't believe how touchy cyclists are about how others view them.

Ride on. Rock on....to your own tune.

Well I'm commenting because who gives a s*** what socks you wear. I just think its ridiculous.....I'm sure you think it is ridiculous that this guy is getting snickered at as well......for socks

I say this guy should lift some weights and show these b**** what his rear tire looks like via the 53-11 ratio.

well, I actually dont own any tube socks...I suppose if I didnt look too stupid in them, I'd wear them. however, socks are one of the few things that I dont feel bad asking my mom to buy me for christmas, bithday, etc, since all the other bike parts cost so much.

Right!
When in doubt, tell 'em to get you a nice pair of cycling socks and everyone's happy.
