Sticky for chain cleaning & lubrication???

How about a sticky thread for chain cleaning and lubrication, perhaps on Road Biking, mountain biking, and bicycyle mechanics??

I think a lot of people tire of seeing the same old posts going back and forth. With each subsequent thread, people exchange *less and less* substantive information (burnout).

It seems a common topic--certainly an important one. If we left a sticky on each forum, newbies could go there first, discuss the topic to death, and--with luck--the topic wouldn't continually reappear in the forums....

Just my $0.02

Yes yes yes! Please.

It should help to keep the "noise" down on the mechanics forum, but would need to be carefully edited to prevent spill over into a rant vs flame war. Perhaps a reference only thread with info on the basic cleaning and lubrication methods & materials that could be added to only at the discression of a moderator?

That is a great idea. How do members go about doing that?

Well, I suppose the best thing to do would be to contact one of the forum moderators and ask. If I have time, I'll give it a try.

What ever happened to the sticky idea?

I've spent all morning using the search function and reading all sorts of opinions about cleaning the chain.

I suggest two stickies:
One for cleaning the chain ON the bike and another sticky for cleaning the chain OFF the bike.

From what I've read today:
-Simple Green attacks aluminum and probably shouldn't be used
(do Citrus cleaners attack aluminum too? Don't recall reading about that)
-Cleaning tools like the Park CM-5 are not designed for use with petroleum based degreasers.
-Forget cleaning, just replace the chain every so often.
-Brake cleaner works best but is a carcinogen.

So I think I'll just get a rag, a can of WD-40 and clean my chain, let it dry and then relube.
