Single speed bottom bracket !%$?HELP??

Hi i've converted my bike to single speed, and recently started hearing clicking/knocking sounds coming from my bottom bracket, i took off my cranks and moved the axel of my bottom bracket. It was moving up and down by about 2mm! I obviously need a new bottom bracket, but what shall i get.
Requirements-
Square taper
Hard wearing (for jump bike and single speed)
Affordable

Product names and numbers would be much appreciated!!
thanks
dan

The cheap Shimano sealed ones. UN53/73. They're not the hardest wearing, but they're so cheap that it's no biggie if you tear through them at a rate of knots.

Are you sure your bb didn't just need an adjustment?

Enjoy

On my SS MTB I was going through a UN72/UN73 every 3-4 months. Switched to a RaceFace and it lasted longer, probably 9-12 months and you can replace the bearings. Might step up to a Phil soon. Not much left in the way of bomber square taper stuff, I was searching the other day.

Mines making noises too (UN53), and it barely has 300 miles on it. I'm going to take everything apart, re-grease and tighten tonight. The noise is the most annoying noise ever.

Be sure to grease the threads. Most of my noises came from not doing that.

also how do you remove the lock ring from around the bottom bracket or do you just use the bottom bracket tool straight away?

im running a race face dh bottom bracket

thing is got damned bomb proof

i went through 4 cups nad bearing setups and 2 cartridge before someone donated this race face one to me for all the trouble i was having with bottom brackets...been riding it going on a year in may...through the winter too!

its a square taper by the way and adjustable from 68 - 73 mm if i remember correctly

this is actually a newer version of what im running
