2012 Langster Pro break Options

I have the matte black Specialized Langster Pro.

I would like to put a front break on it, as I ride it to commute now. I know that I would have to purchase a new wheel set. What are my Fork options that work best with the Langster?

It has a 45mm rake so something like this should work. The only thing I don't know about is the status of whether it requires a tapered fork steer tube or not.

Don't just look at the rake, you need to find a matching axel to crown distance too.

People say this and it is intuitively true but they never seem to be able to articulate how the handling will change. I'm too dumb to reason it out. Raising or lowering the front by by 2 mms doesn't seem that significant.

Basically it will change the headtube angle by raising or lowering the front of the bike. Small changes probably won't be noticed but it's impossible to guess on the interwebs. The best way to describe how it changes it what it does to the trail. Trail is the end result of the head tube angle, fork rake, and axel to crown. Less trail and you need more handlebar input to turn (the lean has less effect on establishing the turn) and more trail needs less (or no ) handlebar input.

Right but you didn't manage to convey what changing a fork with a 45mm rake and 168 mm ATC to a fork with a 45mm rake with a 170 mm ATC will do to the trail. You didn't even say whether it will increase or decrease the trail.

Correct, because we weren't speaking in measurements. The only numbers referenced in this thread were involved with Scrod and his beard and Scrod's beard frightens me a little.

Edit: just reread the thread and saw that you referenced a 2mm change. But I'm still a little frightened by Scrod's beard.

Assuming a 73 degree head tube angle (because non was given) and a 45mm rake, a 2mm increase in axel to crown would change the trail from 54mm to 55mm. I would suspect that no one would notice that diffence but it would increase the trail, thus refer back to my earlier post.

Since you are answering math problems for me, what would be the change of trail (on a bike with a 73 degree head tube), between a fork with a 45mm rake and 170 ATC and a fork with a 35mm rake and a 170 ATC?

I'm using this calculator Bicycle Trail Calculator | yojimg.net . This calc doesn't have an input for ATC but implies it from tire width. It's not perfect but it doesn't need to be.

So the change in a 10mm reduction in rake would be from 54mm of trail to 64mm. I'm pretty sure that's a very noticable difference and it would start getting "twichty".
