I heard about this on the radio. They said neither driver was charged, so I'm assuming the police claim the messenger is at fault.

i've been following this today, but note that everything i say will be third-hand. judith from the NYBMA went to bellevue and spoke to a co-worker of his:

although badly hurt, his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at the moment. hopefully this is one of those situations that look awful at first, but turn out to be not so bad.

Less than 6 inches, he's very lucky to have survived. Trucks and buses are two of the most dangerous vehicles on the road in terms of the driver's visibility in tight city traffic. I've always had a fear of being trapped between 2 buses, I used to have to go through a situation like that on my old commute and 9 times out of 10, I'd err on the side of caution and just stay behind the bus or even swerve out to the other side.

Anyways, if anyone knows the messenger, someone posted this on ABC's news site so I'm just passing it on. The guy might qualify for financial aid from the bicycle messenger emergency fund. Please pass this onto him if you know him. http://www.bicyclemessenger.com/

one lucky dude, I hope someone bought him a lottery ticket that day. But man, he probably just used up all the luck he had for that day.

wow, i can't believe this. this also happened to me 2 weeks ago. i got pinned between a truck and a bus and the truck knocked me down and ran over my bike and my leg. by some act of god i didn't even break a bone, but have a gnarly looking foot/leg and a heinous sprain. can't believe i walked away from that one. neither driver was charged in my incident either. the bus driver even took upon himself to lecture me as i was gathering up the scraps of my bike. my bike was totally destroyed but didn't look quite as bad as this guy's.

it could be a **** ton worse...at least he had the 6-9 inches it oculd have said "a bike courier was pinned between two vehicles today...all that remains is his bicycle...the blood stains on the side of the bus were unable to be removed and an ad will be placed over it to allow for the bus to continue being used"

i hear you.. but if you want to talk "coulda's" he could have not gotten in an accident at all.. ive just never understood the "man is lucky to survive shark attack" mentality.. makes nno sense to me.. ... i feel lucky that i didnt get pinned by a truck today.. that said.. i hope hes ok.. i keep checking back hoping someone says everythings allright.. i think ive had nightmares about being pinned before..

ive definiteley had nightmares before about being pinned...and just yesterday i got hit by a guy that decided he wanted to park but didnt wanna let the rest of the people on the road know he was parking...and if it hadnt been raining and i hadnt half slid half rolled across his hood i would have been pinned between him and hte underside of a u-haul moving truck...goood times

Unlucky as **** to have been caught between them, and lucky as **** to be alive. The canyons between buses and trucks freak me out. I do my best to avoid them. I hope the guy comes out okay.

I Definitely agree. I guess there are two kinds of lucky people though, the kind that never get hit and the kind that do and live to talk about it. I dont understand how this poor guy got so intertwined with the bus/truck as to require the jaws of life, and as such, I'm amazed/glad he's alive.

Sounds like he might be okay, no broken bones somehow.

And for what it's worth, I think he's real lucky to be alive right now. Shooting the gap between large vehicles, moving or not, is a rookie move which should be avoided at all costs. More than a few messengers have been killed like that in New York.

Yea I don't really see him as being lucky either yea lucky to be alive after a near fatal error on his part but terribly unlucky to be there in the first place. It must have been all that prayin :D

I would contact a lawyer right now since we don't know the details of the accident. It sounded like the truck was trying to pass him and made a sandwich out of the poor guy. Regardless, he must be compensated for his loss (Bicycle) including pain and suffering.

There is no bike lane on Madison avenue and it's loaded with buses. I used to commute on this avenue and changed routes because it's a parking lot during rush hour. The minute the light changes green, the cars get real aggressive and speed to make the next light.

I read the guy was saving money to buy a house in Africa. This accident should pay for a very nice one.
