2 speed coaster brake with a tensioner

can you put 2 chain rings up front and run them to a coaster brake with a tensioner?

i dont think you would want a tensioner on a coaster brake....tensioners are meant to take stress in only one dirrection (i believe?)

I don't think that would work too well. For the same reason you wouldn't want to use a tensioner on a fixie. If you want a multi-speed coaster brake, you might look at Sturmey-Archer or Sram 3/5/7 speed coaster brake hubs. The Srams are pretty nice. There's also older Sachs or Bendix 2-speed 'kickback hubs if you can find one.

NO. DON'T DO IT. The coaster brake would not work.

I like how you think, though.

It would work w/ a freewheel and a caliper rear brake!

schwinn made an internal 2 speed- kickback with coaster brake. very heavy but would solve your situation.
