First question: are the Sunlite bottom bracket and the Retrospec crankset compatible? Ie, are the square tapers of the same size, taper anlges and standard: I don't know the answer here, but if the bottom bracket as intended to fit into a larger square in the crank, that would result in the crank sitting further outboard.

On the top of my head id the number 42mm which is, if I recall correctly, the distance a standard fix gear/single speed drive train should sit off the centerline of the bike. The OP could measure that distance and then know where it issue was.

Second thought: Has the OP tried turning the wheel around to see if the other cog sits in the same place and has the same issue? Taking washers from one side and puttng them in the other would make one cog sit too far in and the other too far out. This should not be the case with a new wheel but it takes a minute to check.

First question should be: Why are you not building up a Langster?

Got any photos of the set up? Just curious, all of those parts should work together from just taking a quick look at the specs, unless I missed something.

Wow, that is some solid advice!

Maybe the QC work on all the parts involved is so close to one end of the specs, that its causing clearance/tolerance issues.

What question? OP asked about chain line with a specific set of components. That's exactly the kind of question the forum is good for. I'm still not sure why the initial negatives except that he was building a cheap bike.

+1

The OP had a fully legit question and did a great job detailing the bike and components involved. IMO the OP is the opposite of the weekly "What fixie should I buy"

agreed, the other fussiness is in general and not aimed at the op.

I wouldn't be surprised if the OP checked back after a few replies and was like "man, **** this place."

I've been reading the bike forums (not just SS/FG) for some time before registering and I've noticed some have this rather unpleasant self-entitlement thing going on. Sometimes you see people posting replies as if they're expecting to be amused or amazed by every single thread they click and if they're not, they make sure to voice their disappointment in no uncertain terms.
