Canadian problems (cant find good fixies)

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Canadian problems (cant find good fixies)

Hey fixie riders!

I figured I would look for help out here with the guys who ride fixies to help me figure out what kind of fixie is right for me.

So Im in a crappy town in Quebec, Canada, in which no LBS carry fixies, which makes me obliged to look online to buy a FG/SS.

I would need suggestions for a fun fixed gear that I could ride fast and maybe hop onto a curb sometimes, but really no bunny hops or other tricks. I just want to spice up my commute to my friends houses and all that.

My budget: No more than 400 CAD unless it really is worth it.

I am 5feet 3inches and still growing, if that helps you.

By the way theres a few hills in the town, but nothing really steep. (faaaaar from San Francisco)

Oh, and I like the look of deep rims, but this is just an option.

I live in Vancouver BC and bought a fixie from Critical Cycles C$220 with delivery off of amazon.ca.
It's not high end but it's my favorite ride right now. I got the one with the BMX handle bars. Important to make sure you get the right size frame. Mine is Xlarge and fits me perfect. All I changed were the pedals to a set of metal pedals from my shed. The rest I left stock. I ride it 1/2 hour everyday for exercise.

Have you looked at the KiloTT yet? I'm not sure if it would seem overly-complicated to you (it kinda does to me), but BikesDirect has a page dedicated to getting their bicycles to Canada.

I can't personally vouch for the #KiloTT , having never ridden one myself, though you'll find it to be a favored recommendation for these types of queries around here.

I cringe every time I hear the word fixie or see it mentioned. A co worker was asking about my bike and when I said it was a fixed gear, they said "oh, a fixie." I stared them down while maintaining dominance and firmly said, "no, it is a fixed gear." The conversation ended after that.

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, By any other word would smell as sweet.

craigslist, ebay or pinkbike are probably your best bet.
