Brooks Cambium issue.....
not ssfg specific, but this is where I post the most and know a lot
of us are running these saddles (I personally have 2). the issue is, it looks like the saddle got chunks taken out of it after flexing(?) into my thomson seatpost and then started splitting up the sides from there. this saddle is exactly 1yr old and has around 5,500 miles on it and is the limited edition c15. has anyone else experienced anything like this on their cambiums....? I will be contacting the warranty department and fully expect to get this taken care of but I was curious if anyone else had seen anything like this.... http://s30.postimg.org/cm117mtoh/image.jpg http://s21.postimg.org/uotoqx207/image.jpg http://s24.postimg.org/unrfaa311/image.jpg http://s30.postimg.org/cxwrwj7pd/image.jpg |
mine only has about 600 miles on it so far but nothings happened, ive often wondered about the interaction between my (same) seatpost and saddle though, it seems close and like it would bash into my taint on a bump
maybe its because the limited editions were made differently than the now production models? |
that crossed my mind....i tossed the "production" run c15 from my nature boy onto the wolverine (wanted to make sure it wasn't a seatpost issue) and it seems to sit up much higher away from the saddle clamp....so i dunno.
|
I have two of them, not limited editions, and about 1000 miles. No problems, thankfully.
|
Yeah, it looks like the clamp edge dug into it, causing it to crack. I've had similar problems with other low profile saddles, although they just deformed w/o cracking. You probably need to use a seatpost with more setback with a saddle like that, and clamp it at the rear of the rails.
|
eh, i refuse to buy 2 new thomson posts because a poor design on brooks' part.
i might be switching back to specialized saddles soon.... |

regardless, this seems like it never should've happened. Thomson posts are (arguably) the nicest posts out there and many people are using them with a cambium. seems like a design flaw or at the very least poor qc on the one that I bought. |

I have the exact same issue. I have been meaning to email them and have not gotten around to it yet. Im interested to hear their response.
|
the reason I posted here first- I knew this wouldn't be an isolated issue.

i also just realized these are 15's, i have a 17 carved on the ECR, the sides come out wider i dont think it would have the same potential contact /edit: i just checked and the right side has a slight rub mark but not nearly the chunk missing as you guys have. ruh roh. |
Mine is a production model, c17.

@Flatulentfox the splits on your saddle look too far forward to be caused by interaction with the seatpost....
|
I believe the initial "chunks" were caused by contact with the seat post. I briefly had a straight thomson that sat farther forward. Thecl seat post in now a setback.
Edit to add: The initial chunks were extremely small, nothing that should be an issue. Also, i only had the straight post very briefly, less than a week. The crack has developed with no contact from the post.

I'm wondering how much "real world" testing these saddles had....
