Anyone had experience with a 2speed auto?
Hi all,
I recently won a brodie dos 2.1 at my company contest. It has a SRAM automatic 2 SPD hub. I've not tried this before. Just wondering if you had. Understand this is a single SPD section. Don't quite know where this bike fits in. My other bikes are multi-speed.

I used to own a Koss Cruiser with a Bendix two-speed automatic shift hub, and really hated it because you can't control the shift points. I much prefer the kickback style hubs where you determine when to shift.

Yes. I built up a sram automatix wheel. The hub is crazy heavy. It is not sealed. It does not come with needed anti-rotation washers (the ones they supply dont work so you are constantly screwing around with axle tension). The shift point is crazy low. It is more like a "stoplight assist" (i.e. help you get going when stopped) than a useable second gear.
Also, when going uphill, you need to slow down for it to shift.

I own a sram automatix hub.
I have a write up on a wheel build I did a few years ago here you can check it out: https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespee...eel-build.html
Overall I love mine, it's great for commuting or to use as an errand bike. It tops out quickly and I should probably adjust the shift point but so far I have had 0 problems from the hub.
I'm currently building up a sram torpedo wheel set which I will post in the next few days. Feel free to ask me any questions about my automatix I will try and answer them to the best of my ability's.

So far I am enjoying. Apart from my BMX and a Banana chopper bike that I had as a kid, all my bikes are multi-speeds. So this is a funky experience. I can see the draw of just pedalling the bike without thinking about gear selection for optimal cadence. The Sram automatix is neat. Shifts smoother than I expected. No clunk or chain clack that comes with derailleur action.
I'm on the fence with the default set up of 42t and 18t cog. But I'll adjust.
